Covid-19; Vaccine and Stereotype in Ghana.

Writer's picture: Orlando OkwaraOrlando Okwara

24th Feb, 2020 is the day the government of Ghana received it’s first batch of covid-19 vaccines and the joy and celebration that’s ensured at the airport upon it’s arrival is a clear indication of the joy and satisfaction in the minds of many Ghanains who have suffered in one way or the other from the impact of the pandemic.

That been said, there’s are still people who have reservations about the existence of the virus in the first place and have adjudge this as a stunt by the government to syphon monies from foreign powers.

Many people still believe that the virus is not in Ghana and therefore no need for the vaccine in the first place. That is the position of one twitter user who tweets that he has exposed himself to risk willingly but still hasn’t been infected.

Even after been advised to be careful, he still stands by his position and wouldn’t change for anything.

The worry then is, is there really covid-19 in Ghana ? And if there is how do positions like this thwart government’s effort to fight

the virus and even bigger questions is would people take the vaccine?
