Covid-19 in Ghana; Detailed report on update No.24 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

President Akufo-Addo’s address No. 24 on COVID-19👇🏽

1. Thank you for welcoming me into your homes once again. You're doing so on one of the sacred days of our history, 28th February, when we commemorate some 73 years ago when Sgt. Adjetey and his compatriots died in martyrdom towards our historic March to independence. Let's observe a minute of silence for them.

2. Since I last spoke to you, a month ago, significant milestones have taken place in our country. On Wednesdays 24th February, we took delivery of vaccines from AstraZeneca in India, although I promised in my last update that it will be in March. This is due to the hard work of the team and I salute them for their good work.

3. We're the first country in the world to benefit from this package. I salute the community that worked tirelessly for us to receive this from the WHO.

4. FDA has approved the Astrazeneca vaccine so far. Processes are ongoing to certify other vaccines

5. Our population has been segmented into 4 Groups:

Group 1: Persons most at risk and front line workers; health, security, Executive, Legislature etc.

Group 2: Other essential service providers and members of the security; Ghana water, waste management, media, telcos, prisons, CEPS, immigration etc.

Group 3: The rest of the general public, 18 years and above except pregnant women

Group 4: Pregnant women and nursing mothers will receive special vaccines. Special arrangements have been put in place for PWDs

6. From Tuesday, 2nd March, vaccinations begin in 43 epicentre districts in Greater Accra, Ashanti and Central Regions

7. In all, 12, 301 vaccinators will be deployed with supervisors etc.

8. Fellow Ghanaians, I know that there are some who still express doubt about the vaccine with stereotypes and conspiracy theories. All those claims are false. Our FDA will not certify any vaccine which is intended to wipe out the African race or alter your DNA, cause infertility in men or women etc

9. Tomorrow 1st March, my wife, the Vice President Dr. Bawumia and his wife Samira and I will take the vaccine. Other prominent personalities like the Chief Justice, Asantehene, Ga Mantse, Chief Imam and Religious leaders etc will take the vaccine on Tuesday

10. I encourage all CSOs, the media etc to support the government in this regard.

11. We should manufacture vaccines here. Thus, a committee chaired by the renowned immediate past Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, has been formed to ensure this happens

12. While at these, let's not forget the protocols; washing of hands, social distancing and wearing of masks while sanitising regularly.

13. As at Friday 26th February, Active cases stood at 5,044, average new cases stood at 400 and 77,972 recoveries. Since my last address to you, 171 more people have died and currently, total deaths stand at 607. A total of 207 schools have recorded cases out of the more than 69,000 schools. Currently, active cases in schools stand at 282.

14. Thus, until further notice, all restrictions announced in the last address remain in force.

15. If we all comply, we'll be out of this pandemic in no time. This is my promise to you. May God bless us all and bless our homeland Ghana. The battle remains the Lord's. Thank you for your attention and have a good night.
